Why Do YOU Hate Fundraising???
Ok, I’ll admit it. I don’t really hate fundraising overall. Only parts of it. For example, I hate it when big companies try to take advantage of good-hearted people who don’ t really have a lot of experience fundraising and feed them a line of BS that really only benefits their own bottom line.
Here’s a picture of an email I recently got from a “Big Cookie Dough” company (my term for the collective fundraising industry that peddles this crap.) The graffiti is my own contribution…
This message tries to convince people that fundraising needs to be easy. It also claims that they have the “Best cookie dough fundraiser in the country!” To me, this is like bragging that I have the “biggest ingrown toenail in the country”. Not something I’d really want to boast about, you know?
Also, by claiming it’s “the best in the country”, they give themselves the aroma of a snake oil salesman. You just know in your bones you can’t trust them.
Anyway, I’d like to know why YOU hate fundraising. Please feel free to share your horror stories below for all of us to read and laugh at!
Enjoy!

To be honest, I love fundraising! I know I’m one of the few crazy ones; but it gives me a chance to use my creativity. It’s a complete Marketing challenge for me – which I love! If you can plan & promote, you can fundraise.
What I don’t like is when I see school groups that don’t plan effectively or rely solely on outside fundraising companies. As it states here, DIY fundraisers should definitely be a part of your plan.
I believe fundraising is like the stock market. You must diversify and offer something for everyone. Some of those ideas will be highly productive and offer a great return on your investment and some may require less effort but offer a much lower return. The key is knowing how to make an effective plan and market it to the fullest extent.
It’s nice to see another site like PTOIdeas.com that’s teaching school groups how to plan those DIY fundraisers.
